A virtual pampering session and history lesson were on the agenda for a special event to showcase tourism in south Warwickshire.

Shakespeare’s England teamed up with tourism trade association, UKinbound, to get online and host a special Virtual Familiarisation Visit for Tour Operators on Zoom.

The session was a chance for the teams to showcase the region, everything it has to offer and let everyone know it is open for business.

Shakespeare’s England members, Coombe Abbey Hotel and Billesley Manor Hotel and Spa, offered a helping hand with the event, which saw tour operators from across the country join in.

Coombe Abbey Knight, Sir James, was the compere for the proceedings which highlighted the rich history of the area and the two venues with a quiz.

There was also a pampering and relaxation demonstration, herbal teas from Coombe Abbey were sent to participants ahead of time as well as spa oils and creams from Billesley Manor and everyone was shown how to use them.

Helen Peters, Chief Executive for Shakespeare’s England, said it was important to make sure that tour operators know that the region is still open for business and welcoming visitors.

“This year has been extremely tough for the tourism industry both locally and nationally, so we have to make sure that we let everyone know that we’re here, we’re all still working hard and welcoming in visitors,” said Helen.

“All of our members are taking stringent precautions to make sure that they protect their visitors and be Covid safe, so their customers can visit with confidence.

“This event was the perfect way to showcase the region, remind operators about Shakespeare’s England and highlight some of our members.

“Of course, we made sure it was a bit fun with the pampering session and history quiz, but the message is clear - South Warwickshire and the surrounding areas are very much open for business, and We’re Good to Go, Covid-Secure, so come along and see what all our members have to offer.”

Temi Fatona, UKinbound Events Manager, added: “It’s been fantastic to collaborate with Shakespeare’s England on our latest virtual familiarisation trip where, through the medium of Zoom, 23 of our tour operator members discovered what this stunning area of England has to offer while enjoying an evening of relaxation and rejuvenation.

“In these challenging times it’s imperative that we adapt and find new ways to connect buyers and suppliers, and our virtual fams are an engaging and effective way of doing this.”
