Gaming experts are teaching the next generation of tech professionals the tricks of the trade in the gaming industry’s hub of Silicon Spa.
Leading Midlands law firm Wright Hassall has invited the future of the gaming industry to hear from the experts as part of their Tech Week events, highlighting the impact of technology on different industries.
Students from WCG (formerly Warwickshire College Group) and Coventry College will be hearing from Andrew Oliver of Game Dragons and Graham Watson of Third Kind Games at Wright Hassall’s office in Leamington Spa on Friday, September 27, who will talk about setting up your own gaming business.
The event is part of the firm’s wider Tech Week events, which will showcase how technology is impacting the legal and business worlds and will include topics such as artificial intelligence and legal technology, financial technology, agriculture technology and property technology across the week.
Keynote speakers will feature experts across these sectors including Derek Southall, CEO of Hyperscale Group, Vik Tara, MD of Technology Blueprint, Elizabeth Basten and Richard Marshall from Wealth Wizards, Simon Davis, Co-Founder of Nimbus Maps, Stephanie Vaughan of iManage RAVN and Robert Lillywhite, Assistant Professor from the School of Life Sciences at University of Warwick, with each sector session chaired by lawyers at Wright Hassall.
Jeremy Hyde, Tech Week lead at Wright Hassall said: “We’re thrilled to be inviting students along to hear from these industry experts and to be able to present their own projects to demo as well.
“We’ll be welcoming experts from a number of sectors to discuss the influence that technology has on their industry from financial services to agriculture and property technology.

Students at WCG will also be bringing along a VR kit to showcase a two-player rowing game they made last year.
Andrew Brazier at WCG added: “Leamington Spa is a national hub for the videogames industry which is why we offer the games course at Royal Leamington Spa College at both Further Education and Higher Education levels.
“We’re looking forward to being involved in Tech Week and for our students to hear from the experts to get an insight into the industry as well as presenting their own projects.”
Nathan James Flannery, Lecturer of Games Design and Film Studies at Coventry College, commented: “We have more than 120 gaming students across seven gaming courses at our college, and as a student you can’t really beat advice from experts who are thriving in the sector that you’re studying in, so bringing some of them along to this is a no-brainer.
“It will be a really useful experience for the students, and hopefully they’ll be able to pick up some insightful tips both for both their own careers and to share with other students back at the college.”
