CW Champion Simon Perkin's success at World Transplant Games

Wednesday 7th of August 2019 10:47 AM

Congratulations to CW Champion Simon Perkin who has won 4 Gold Medals (5k, 1500m, 800m & Golf) at the British Transplant Games and is the European Champion for the 50 to 59 age category and will now be taking on the rest of the world in Newcastle & Gateshead starting 17th August where there will be 60 countries represented.

Simon said: "It feels amazing! I go with hope & wanting to do my best but to be honest, it's all about recognising the real heroes who are the selfless donors & their loved ones who gave us all a second chance & the gift of life. I am so grateful to my German donor (never met him) who donated his bone marrow. If only we could encourage more people & especially, young men to donate their stem cells & organs because sadly, 411 patients across the Uk died waiting for a transplant last year & did you know, there are 7,000 desperate patients & their families waiting for a call to give them hope; I never forget the uncertainty of not knowing & fear whether you will die.

"Not a day goes by that I do not feel grateful & I cherish every single day because I would not have seen my son grow up & I am now fitter & healthier in my 50's than I have ever been. I run my own mentor & nutrition business. I am very grateful to the local community for supporting me & make a big thing about actively promoting blood, stem cell, organ donation & health & wellbeing. See . I have spoken at the Annual Living Well With Cancer Conference & many other national & localevents & can be contacted via simonperkin@btinternet.com or 07757 812410."
