The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) regulates qualifications, examinations, and assessments in England.
We are an independent, non-ministerial government department, which means we report directly to Parliament.
Our job is to secure standards and promote confidence in the qualifications offered by the 150 or so awarding organisations we regulate. These include GCSEs and AS/A levels, as well as thousands of different vocational and technical qualifications. We are not responsible for subject content, the curriculum, or the funding of qualifications.
Some of the organisations we regulate offer qualifications in countries around the world and issue millions of certificates a year. Others are very small, niche providers with just dozens or hundreds of certificates issued every year; so, it’s a really diverse range of organisations and qualifications that we regulate.
We are a local employer, based in Canley, Coventry, with around 200 employees.
